Detailia Pins & Prints — Fantastic creatures of Saint Petersburg
Personal project
Creative idea & Design: Kato Trofimova (Hey Kato Studio)
Saint Petersburg is full of creatures nobody notices. Dolphins on cornices, griffins on gates, owls tucked into facades — a whole mythology living at eye level, hiding in plain sight for anyone who knows where to look.
Detailia started as a question: what happens when you take that hidden visual language and make it portable? Each pin in the collection is based on a real architectural detail from the city — researched, drawn, and translated into cloisonné enamel. Every piece ships with an archival card documenting the specific building it came from: its address, its history, the creature's place in the facade.
The project was created in collaboration with Podpisnye Izdaniya — one of Saint Petersburg's most iconic cultural bookstores, known for championing independent art and design. Over 10000 pins were sold during the project's run in 2020–2022. The collection was featured in AD Russia and Timeout Moscow.
Detailia was an exercise in a specific kind of translation: from architectural archive to wearable object, from collective urban memory to something one person carries in their pocket. The same instinct that drives this project — finding the system inside something that looks like decoration — runs through everything else I make.
